Friday, 19 June 2015 - At Sea - College Fjord

Today we were at sea all day crossing the Gulf of Alaska. It was a good time to take care of some accounting items and get packed for the ensuing land portion of our tour. We caught up on the blog posts, but would have to wait to get on land to upload them since the Star Princess' Internet is absolutely worthless.

Earle found a choir forming on board so spent some time rehearsing for the concert at 5:15. They really sounded good, but sang selections from Sound of Music so that was a downer.

The anticipated event of the day was to sail up College Fjord. This fjord provided an incredible view of 6 glaciers that were all named for, according to the cruise commentator, "elite eastern colleges. There were the Harvard, Yale, Radcliffe, Bryn Mawr, Smith, and Wellesley glaciers. We screamed WELLESLEY when the commentator pronounced it as WESLEY. Will write to Princess to make sure that that doesn't happen again. It's unfortunate that the pictures don't capture the sheer beauty of these rivers of ice.

Back to the room to put our luggage out before dinner. We will be wearing our clothes another day since we can't take but a small tote on board the coach to Anchorage tomorrow.
Of course no cruise would be complete without Sharon buddying up with one of the crew. This one was no exception.
Dinner was on an American theme. The starter was a seafood trio of lobster, squid, and shrimp over an avocado with a cilantro garnish.

Soup was a gazpacho, but we ate it before we could get a snapshot of it!

A New York Strip steak was the main course.

The meal was finished off with a take on Baked Alaska. We kept wondering when this would be served.

After dinner was the final show that featured the crew and staff of the Star Princess. This is what happens when you provide adults with balloons before the performance. The show was well produced and full of energy.

Back to the room to turn in for our last night at sea. It will be an early morning tomorrow. We meet in one of the dining rooms for embarkation at 8:05.

The cruise provided the most spectacular views of our 49th state. It was so much more than I expected. However, we were a bit disappointed in the service and state of the ship. I am not sure I would travel Princess again, but it doesn't detract from the sights that we saw and the memories of those that we have.

Buccos lost today. Must have been because we weren't listening.
