Today was our day to begin our Alaskan cruise. It started out with some hassles. Had to dispute our hotel bill in Seattle. No, we should not have to pay for valet parking when we didn't have a car. Then we get to the airport and were met by the very nice Princess Cruise representatives, got our luggage checked in, and went to get a few snacks for the coach ride to Vancouver. We went back to the coach boarding area and I am sure glad that I asked to confirm the destination was Vancouver. No, they were going to the Seattle port. Then we spotted a woman running toward us who finally got us in the right area for the Vancouver departure. Finally, we had to ride on the official Seattle Seahawks coach. I think the driver was more upset over the fact that we were part of the Steeler Nation. They just can't get over the 2006 Super Bowl.
The drive through the Pacific Northwest was absolutely beautiful. It was a sunny day and perfect for the drive to Vancouver and Canada Place, the departure point.
Check in was very efficient and we found our stateroom without problem. We had expected to find Sharon there, but she had not arrived yet. We grabbed some lunch on the Lido deck in the Horizon Court restaurant. Wandered around for a bit before the mandatory life jacket drill. Sitting in the theatre, we spy Sharon sneakinging in. If we thought we had some difficulties this morning, it was nothing like she had - flight from Charlotte delayed an hour so that she missed connection in Houston, rerouted to Denver, and then to Vancouver. But her luggage is still in Houston. Hopefully, it will be here at our first port in Ketchikan.
On to the bar for a much needed beer for her. Then to explore the ship and finally dinner. The ship was about 4 hours delayed in sailing because they were waiting for another flight to get in.
Dinner was delicious with all sorts of Alaskan specialities like gravelox. We all had prime rib as a main course since that was the speicality of the night.
After dinner it was time do a little shopping for Sharon to pick up some clothing until she gets her luggage. Princess prices aren't really that bad. Then back to our room for all of us to catch up on some sleep. Sharon had been up nearly 24 hours. No need to set an alarm for tomorrow since we are at sea tomorrow.
Pirates win 4-3!
